In 1989, our founder, Bertha Yergat, created a plan to ensure her own cats would always be protected. Today, we carry on her legacy by advocating for pet estate planning and providing a permanent sanctuary for senior cats in her original Laguna Beach cottage.
Our Lifetime Care Program is tailored to the needs of senior cats, operating much like an assisted living community. Younger cats have higher energy levels and different environmental needs than older ones. To maintain a peaceful, cozy home for our residents, cats must be 12 years or older at the time of placement.

How the Program Works
Step 1: Connect With Us
Contact our team to discuss your plans, or schedule a tour of our senior cat sanctuary. We’ll answer your questions, review eligibility, and help determine if our cottage environment is the right fit for your cats.
Step 2: Include Blue Bell in Your Estate Plans
Putting your wishes in writing ensures your cat's care is never left to chance and helps guarantee your instructions are followed. Work with your attorney or estate advisor to include Blue Bell in your plans.
Step 3: Register for Future Care
Once your plans are set, submit or print & mail your registration form. We’ll confirm your enrollment and ask for the relevant sections of your estate plan. Then, you can rest easy knowing their future is secure.
Age Requirement
Cats must be 12 years or older at the time of placement. You may plan ahead with us regardless of your cat's age. However, if your cat is under the age of 12 while drafting your documents, we recommend designating a backup option for their care.
Funding Their Care
We require a placement donation to help offset the cost of your cat's care. The amount is calculated on a sliding scale according to age upon admittance. Donations are lower for older cats with shorter care horizons, and higher for younger cats. The actual expense of providing a lifelong home typically exceeds this amount. No funding is required upfront; the donation is only due upon transfer.

Our sanctuary space is limited and we always prioritize reserved spots for cat owners who have planned ahead with us. We do our best to accommodate urgent or unexpected needs. If you require placement right away, please contact us to discuss your situation.
