Lady

Lady, or Lady Bug Ladyas we affectionately nicknamed her, came to us in October of 2007 with her “sister” Muffy whom we lost in 2011. A very ladylike black and white sweetheart, she loved rolling in catnip on the patios and getting head scratches and head butts. When you stopped petting her, she would smack at you and grab your hand/arm and pull it back for more loving.

Several months ago she was diagnosed with cancer and being one to normally hang out with volunteers on the couch, she became less interactive and spent most days high on top of the armoire with Misty. Two weeks ago we found out that the cancer had spread and that she did not have long. So we made sure she was comfortable until she let us know it was time. This past Friday was the day. She had only eaten a little – she wanted to but just couldn’t. And it appeared that even with the pain meds, she was becoming uncomfortable so the decision was made to let her go.

Last weekend, she had been placed in the office with Skyler so she could be monitored more closely and we could give her extra attention. She and Muffy started out in that room when they first arrived at Blue Bell, so it was fitting that she would leave us in the same room.

I had gone to see her earlier in the day and she was lying in the chair in the office and she turned to look at me and meowed over and over and then sat up and meowed again and I went over and gave her pets and loving. I fixed her a plate of food and held it for her and she ate a little along with some treats. But I could tell she was struggling. Her mind was still alert but her body was failing her. I spent a long time giving her pets, head butts and chin scratches and told her the story of how she and Muffy came to Blue Bell. I told her over and over that we loved her and would miss her but that Muffy was waiting for her and that it was ok to go and that I would see her again.

She’s pain free now and together again with Muffy, running around and chasing butterflies and snuggling together in soft puffy beds over the Rainbow Bridge.
